Skin hydration happens from both the inside and the outside. Your skin is a very large 8 lb organ of 2 square meters. Maintaining soft, supple, radiant skin takes work, time and commitment. Hydration of skin is important for skin health.

Here are the 4 ways to hydrate your skin:

fruits for skin hydration
  1. Internal hydration from your diet and drinking water.
  2. Seal in skin moisture with moisturization by applying skin oils.
  3. Apply moisturization with water based creams which place moisture on your skin.
  4. Increasing the amount of natural moisturizing factor (NMF) in your skin. This is a hydrating skin barrier produced naturally by the skin.

Internal hydration from your diet:

Consumption of fruits, smoothies, water and other foods from your diet hydrates your entire body system, including your skin. This is needed to help your skin detoxify, heal better, and function properly. Read here for more information on dietary hydration and water consumption for your skin.

Moisturization by applying skin oils:

Skin oils are good for sealing in moisture. They work best when combined with a water based cream which feeds the skin with a supply of moisture for the oils. When choosing skin oils, opt for those that are low on the comedogenic scale, such argan oil found in our Dermal Recover Serum, and hemp seed oil found in our Premium Cleansing Oils.

These have a 0-rating on the comedogenic scale, and are both excellent facial moisturizers. These can be mixed with your Melanopeel® creams and serums for hydration with added benefits.

Moisturization by water based creams:

These add a layer of hydration on your skin by placing the peptide-rich moisture found in the cream onto your skin. An example of this is our super-hydrating Deep Dermal Peptide Repair Cream.

Increasing the amount of natural moisturizing factor (NMF) in your skin:

NMF is an amazing mixture of amino acids, sugars and other molecules including lactic acid that your skin produces naturally.

It forms a layer within the skin that attracts water, thereby providing a natural level of moisturization and softness to your skin. One of the ways of increasing your skin’s NMF is to use products containing lactic acid, hyaluronic acid, and niacinamide for added natural skin hydration.
