Our Skin Innovations magazine is here to give you a wealth of information! You’ve learnt about acne, discolorations from acne, and anti-acne active ingredients, It can be overwhelming and a bit confusing. This is especially true for patients new to Melanopeel®, and persons who are using other skin care lines in addition to Melanopeel®.
To make your transition easier, let us go through the key steps of applying your different products and how to layer your acne skin care products. From cleansing to final layer of your acne product. Note that there are several different permutations, as each person has a different skin type and skin needs.
It is best to contact your Melanopeel®-certified clinic for your ideal acne treatment plan, as this may also include professional treatments. We will also advise you on how to use your other skin care lines concurrently with our protocols.

STEP 1 – CLEANSING FOR ACNE:
Your skin type and needs will be special to you and only you. Your cleanser may include active ingredients such as mandelic acid, salicylic acid, azelaic acid, lactic acid, glycolic acid, or benzoyl peroxide. Your cleanser may also contain calming botanical ingredients and hydrators such as Asian White Tea & niacinamide. Your cleanser may be an exfoliating scrub, or not.
So your cleansing choice will depend on whether you have drier skin, oily skin, acne-prone skin, sensitive skin, razor-bumps, or hyperpigmentation. Your cleanser choice will also depend on whether or not you need exfoliation, and how much is needed.
We have cleansers that will match every skin need. Has your skin gotten used to your last Melanopeel® cleanser? This is a common occurrence with acne, and the Melanopeel system has a number of cleanser options just to counter this.
STEP 2 – TONING FOR ACNE:
Is this step really necessary?! Definitely yes. Our toners do more than the usual story of pH balancing the skin. Our toners are medicated and meant to deliver beneficial ingredients to your skin. They are not meant to strip your skin, but rather deliver actives such as mandelic acid, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, phytic acid, Asian White Tea, niacinamide, and azelaic acid to your skin.
They are also capable of delivering calming anti-inflammatory botanicals & hydrators to the skin.
The other secondary benefit is that our toners keep your skin at the most receptive physiologic pH for receiving your other creams and serums. Another benefit is that our toner provide a low-level peel to your skin so that your other creams and serums work better. Like your cleansers, we have a wide range of choices for each skin type.
STEP 3 – DAILY TREATMENTS FOR ACNE:
A number of treatments from Melanopeel® are available to you. These target acne, antiaging and discolorations. Our extensive range of serums contain the most potent and effective list of active ingredients – mandelic acid, tranexamic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid, hydroquinone, pore refiners, benzoyl peroxide, azelaic acid, vitamin C, niacinamide, retinol, plant-based skin lighters and botanical anti-inflammatory agents.
One or two treatments may be recommended for you as one product alone cannot target all the types of your different skin cells that need normalizing.
STEP 4 – SKIN BALANCING & HYDRATION WITH ACNE-PRONE SKIN:
Your daily active routine can be drying to the skin. Therefore you will need to replenish and maintain your protective barrier membrane healthy. We do this with some of the best barrier membrane protectors and skin hydrators – niacinamide, tranexamic acid, retinol, peptides, plant-based anti-inflammatories, and nourishing and skin-friendly non-comedogenic oils.
STEP 5 – SUN PROTECTION FOR ACNE-PRONE SKIN:
Your choice of either tinted mineral based sunscreens plus antioxidants, or non-irritating antioxidant chemical sunscreens are available to you. Both are of the highest quality and provide more than just sun protection – they actually make your skin healthier. These are needed for everyone using active ingredients and patients trying to reduce their pigmentation.
STEP 6 – WEEKLY OR OTHER INTERMITTENT HOME ACNE TREATMENTS:
These treatments include pore cleansing masks, home chemical peels, mandelic acid oil cleansing and home microneedling. These are treatments recommended every week, or every other week as determined by your clinic.
STEP 7 – PROFESSIONAL PHYSICIAN TREATMENTS:
These can include medical microneedling, medical facials (the MelanoFacials™), chemical peels, anti-inflammatory injections, and oral medications.
